M6 crash LIVE updates as motorway CLOSED and air ambulance called

Drivers heading north are being warned of major disruption after part of the M6 was closed. The motorway is shut in both directions between junctions 42 and 43 near Carlisle. An air ambulance has been sent out to the scene after a lorry driver suffered a 'medical episode', according to National Highways.

A diversion away from the closure is also in place, Lancs Live reports. According to traffic alert site Inrix, the accident occurred on M6 northbound and traffic is also being held in the southbound direction for the air ambulance to land. A National Highways spokesperson said: "A full closure is in place northbound and traffic is currently being held southbound to assist the emergency services working at the scene and allow the air ambulance to land safely.
"The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours."
