Man and woman in 20s tragically killed after car leaves M1 motorway and crashes into tree

Two people have tragically lost their lives following a devastating crash on the M1, which saw their vehicle veer off the motorway before colliding with a tree. South Yorkshire Police were alerted to the M1 southbound between junctions 37 and 36 at 11.36pm on Wednesday, November 12. A dark coloured BMW Saloon had been travelling along the motorway when it departed the carriageway and struck a tree.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver, a man in his 20s, and his passenger, a woman in her 20s, were both declared dead at the scene. Specialist officers are now providing support to their families. Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or anyone with footage, to come forward.

They stated: "We have launched an investigation following the tragic death of a man and a woman in a fatal collision on the M1. "We're appealing for witnesses, footage and information to help us understand the circumstances that led to the collision. Last night (Wednesday 12 November) at 11.36pm, we received a call to reports of a collision on the M1 Southbound between junctions 37 and 36.", reports Yorkshire Live[1].

Emergency services attended and the driver, a man in his 20s, and his passenger, a woman in her 20s, were sadly both pronounced dead at the scene. "Their families are being supported by family liaison officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
