Man in 20s dies after M20 crash as police launch investigation
A man in his 20s has died in hospital following a crash on the M20 which closed the busy motorway for hours.
The incident took place on the carriageway near Maidstone[1] on Wednesday, November 12. At around 11.30pm a car was travelling the wrong way between junctions 8 and 9 and collided with a van, police say.

Emergency services attended the scene [2]and the driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was airlifted to a London hospital where he died on Thursday 13 November.

His next of kin have been informed.
The other motorist was treated at hospital for minor injuries and has since been discharged. Police have launched an appeal as part of their investigation.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "An investigation by Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is underway. Anyone who saw the collision, or either vehicle prior to it, is urged to contact police.

Following the crash the M20[5] was closed eastbound between J8 [6]for Hollingbourne and J9 for Ashford[7] for several hours with delays.
A spokesperson for National Highways said at the time: "Traffic officers have dealt with a spillage at the location. The eastbound carriageway remains fully closed to facilitate a detailed police investigation into the circumstances of the incident, which must be completed before the route can be safely reopened.
"This work is essential to support their enquiries and to ensure the safety of anyone travelling through the area once the road is restored.
Recovery and investigation activity is ongoing, and further updates will follow as the situation develops."
