A man was rushed to hospital after he was struck by a car on a major Birmingham[1] route.

The collision happened at the junction of Poets Corner and the A45 Small Heath Highway at around 5.50pm last night, November 7.

The man, aged in his 70s, was rushed to hospital shortly after the crash.

His condition was not disclosed by police.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and was assisting officers with their enquiries.

Small Heath Highway was blocked for several hours following the crash.

Drivers were urged last night to plan their journeys ahead of time.

A force spokesperson told BirminghamLive: "Officers were called to reports of a collision between a man and a car at the junction of Poets Corner on Small Heath[6] Highway, last night at 5.50pm.

"The man in his 70s was taken to hospital.

"The driver remained at the scene and is assisting us with our enquiries.

"Anyone with any information or dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch with us by calling 101, quoting incident number 4470 of November 7, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
