Person hit by lorry closing A66 at Middlesbrough for hours

Cleveland Police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to the eastbound carriageway, towards Redcar at 4.40pm yesterday. A large goods vehicle hit a female pedestrian close to Riverside Retail Park, near Argos. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "We're appealing for witnesses and any relevant dash cam footage after a fatal collision on the A66 eastbound (towards Redcar) yesterday, Thursday (November 27). "The incident happened just before 4.40pm as a large goods vehicle travelling on the A66 and passing Riverside Retail Park near Argos was in collision with a female pedestrian. "Police and ambulance service colleagues attended however very sadly the 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this extremely difficult time." In pictures seen by The Northern Echo, police collision investigators were spotted placing evidence markers on the road. Paramedics attended the scene and the road was closed for several hours.

Cleveland Police is now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.
