Police issue update after ‘beloved’ grandfather dies in Gwynedd crash

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a "beloved grandfather" who was hit by a van in Gwynedd. Geraint Jones died after being struck by a van on the A487 Caernarfon bypass near Bontnewydd at around 8.30pm on Sunday.[1][2] The road was shut in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene, however Mr Jones, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene.
North Wales Police have now confirmed a man has been arrested following the incident. A force spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation, pending further inquiries."
Following Mr Jones' tragic death, his devastated family released a tribute which said: "We are absolutely devastated at the loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Sergeant Katie Davies from the force's Roads Policing Unit said: "I share my deepest condolences with the man's family at this incredibly difficult time. "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact police.
I am also appealing to anyone who was travelling along the A487 prior to 8.30pm yesterday evening and saw a man walking along the bypass to contact us.
