Teesside’s danger drivers banned from roads for high speed chases, causing serious injury and death
Driving is a privilege, not a right. A right that these men have lost, many along with their liberty, after being convicted of dangerous driving.
Some of these drivers led police officers on high speed chases where it's been stated that it's a miracle no one was hurt. Others have caused their victims serious injury, and one driver caused the death of his friend.
One lorry driver left his three victims with life changing injuries after he ploughed into a van.
Another electric bike riding drug dealer caused serious injury to a seven-year-old boy, who now needs to use a wheelchair. Advertisement Advertisement

We look at the cases of 13 danger drivers hauled before the courts for their selfish actions.
John Grey, Daniel Madden and Damian Calvert

Stockton quad biker John Grey, 27, 'zig-zagged' dangerously around a park with a toddler on the back. He has now been sentenced alongside two other men for a series of driving offences on Teesside[1].
Grey, Daniel Madden and Damian Calvert were caught speeding around the Stockton[2] park on the bikes and causing damage.
During the incident, Grey even put a two-year-old child on the back of the quadbike as he "zig-zagged" through the park[3] at high speed and with no safety equipment for either of them. Madden then turned up on a motorbike and also drove the child around. Advertisement

He was also sentenced for separate offences of dangerous driving, and driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance, committed on November 15, last year.
Grey was jailed for 32 months and banned him from driving for three years and four months, with an extended re-test requirement.
Daniel Madden, 29, of Newton Walk, Stockton, was sentenced for criminal damage, dangerous driving, driving without a licence and without insurance, also committed on January 10, 2023. Madden was jailed for 12 months and banned from driving for two years and six months. He will also have to sit an extended re-test if he wants his licence back.

A lorry driver ploughed into stationary traffic leaving victims with life-changing injuries and one choking on their own blood. "It is a miracle that no one was killed on the road" when Singh smashed into the rear of a van at more than 50mph, and was still accelerating at the moment of impact, say police.
The Mercedes HGV driver failed to brake for traffic on the A27 in Chichester.
The 45-year-old was recorded crashing into the vehicle and left three people with "life-changing serious injuries". Advertisement Advertisement

"The driver of that HGV has destroyed my life," one victim said. Singh, of Ennis Square, Redcar[4], was arrested and charged with three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He admitted the charges and at Portsmouth Crown Court on October 10 he was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison.
He was disqualified from driving for four years and 11 months.

The 18-year-old has been locked up for 15 months after he led police on three pursuits through Hartlepool[5] and Redcar.
One of which the judge said: "It was little short of a miracle no one else was injured least of all you given the circumstances of the offences."
During one incident, he topped speeds of 70mph in a 30mph residential zone. Beattie also went the wrong way around roundabouts and drove into the path of an oncoming vehicle although no collision occurred.
Beattie, who's eyes were glazed and speech slurred, had to be pulled through the drivers window to be arrested and was found with ammonia. Beattie was sentenced for driving while over the prescribed limit for cocaine and benzoylecgonine, two counts of possession of a class A drug, two counts of danger driving, one of possessing a corrosive substance, one count of driving while disqualified, one of possession of a class C controlled drug, and one count of driving while disqualified.

The personal trainer who was driving on the wrong side of the road knocked a police officer over - dragging him under the car's open door. Ogleby, 46, was banned from the roads when he drove towards the PC, who was single-crewed and on traffic duty, on Belasis Avenue in Billingham[7], on November 30, last year.
Ogleby flashed his lights at the police officer whilst driving towards him.
The PC got out of his car and took Ogleby's keys from him.
Teesside Crown Court[8] heard that the defendant, who "towered over the police officer", got out of his Kia and snatched his car keys back. The PC then pepper-sprayed the defendant who got back into his vehicle and reversed with the driver's door still open. Advertisement

The PC was knocked over by the door and dragged underneath it before Ogleby sped off, later abandoning his car and fleeing in a taxi.
In a statement, the PC said: "I remember thinking that I'm going under the car and there's nothing I can do.
It's hard to get that thought out of your head - my wife does not want me to return to policing."
Ogleby, of Imperial Crescent, in Stockton[9], pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker; dangerous driving; driving whilst disqualified; and two counts of failing to provide a specimen.
Ogleby was handed a 16-month prison term, suspended for two-years. He was ordered to attend 30-rehabilitation days and carry out 30-hours of unpaid work. He was placed under a drug rehabilitation order for the next 16-months.
He was banned from driving for three years. Advertisement Advertisement

Haroon Mohammed

The 'cowardly' danger driver smashed into a car on the A19[10] crash and left his elderly passenger in 'excruciating pain'. Haroon Mohammed, 41, had been weaving in and out of traffic and speeding all the way to Middlesbrough[11] from Burnley.
He was making the journey in his Astra on October 27, 2023, to give his passenger a lift in exchange for cash, Teesside Crown Court[12] has heard.
Mohammed's passenger later told police that he was relieved when Mohammed came off country lanes - where he had hit the kerb more than once - and reached the A19.
The man relaxed and dozed off, once he saw he was near the A174 and almost home. But other drivers described being alarmed by Mohammed's careering Astra on the A19 northbound near Teesside Park. Advertisement

The driver smashed into the Mercedes in front of him on the A19 near the Mandale interchange.
His car then hit the barrier and spun 360 degrees, before hitting the Mercedes for a second time.
Mohammed's passenger was stuck in the Astra as his seat belt had jammed. He said he was in "excruciating pain in his left side" and that he began to panic when the car filled with smoke.
Mohammed drove off - ignoring his passenger's pleas to call an ambulance. He dropped the elderly man off on Easton Street in Thornaby[13] - where Mohammed has a house - and said he had called him a taxi.
Mohammed's girlfriend arrived and drove him away.
The injured passenger got in touch with his daughter, who had arranged the lift for him, and she later said he was drifting in and out of consciousness when she arrived to take him to hospital. He was suffering from bleeding to his kidney and sustained two broken ribs in the smash. Advertisement

He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to his passenger by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
Judge Mohammed, of Hartley Street in Nelson, Lancashire, was jailed for 42-months. He was banned from driving for 81-months.
Michael Hill

The drug-dealing electric bike rider left a seven-year-old child with a traumatic brain injury in a Middlesbrough[14] hit-and-run. Hill was racing around the town on a dark electric bike - despite being banned - along with his pal Lee Oliver, who was riding a moped in a balaclava.
But as the pair rode down a residential street, Hill collided with a young child who had walked out onto the road.
The child was knocked unconscious and left in a life-threatening condition, but rather than stay and assist, cowardly Hill and Lee fled the scene.[15] Advertisement Advertisement

A court heard that the child was left with a traumatic brain injury and was flown to Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary[16] (RVI) for treatment. The now wheelchair dependent child remains in hospital and has ongoing health issues and disabilities.
On Tuesday, Oliver, 31, of no fixed address, and Hill, 24, of Raby Court, Middlesbrough[17], appeared at Teesside Crown Court[18].
Hill was sentenced for causing serious injury by driving whilst disqualified, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop at a road accident, and failing to report an accident.
Oliver was sentenced for assisting an offender, and driving without a licence or insurance. Both defendants, who appeared at court via link from HMP Holme House, had pleaded guilty.

After the frightening 20-minute episode, Lidster drove off and police later found him apparently asleep in the queue of the McDonald's drive-thru on Thrush Road. An initial roadside breath test showed he was almost four times over the drink-drive limit.
The 41-year-old from Redcar[19], who previously attacked an airport worker[20] while intoxicated, escaped an immediate jail term for dangerous driving. On hearing Lidster was suffering with PTSD and depression after working as a contractor in war-torn Afghanistan, the judge told him: "Please get the help that you clearly need."
Lidster, a mechanic, of Ings Road in Redcar, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The court heard he had five previous convictions for seven offences including two previous cases of drink-driving in 2010 and 2021.
Recorder Robert Ward gave Lidster a 14-month jail sentence, which was suspended for two years, and ordered him to carry out 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days and wear an alcohol abstinence tag for 120 days. He must also pay GBP150 costs.
Declan Slater
The 21-year-old danger driver collided with five different cars as he was chased by police. Declan Slater refused to pull over on the afternoon of June 30, when police saw him behind the wheel in Dormanstown[21], Redcar[22].
Teesside Crown Court[23] has heard that he raced along Staintondale Avenue, overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road.
The uninsured driver, who has never passed his test, reached 50mph on Roseberry Road before he crashed into a taxi.
Undeterred, Slater turned onto Westbank Road and continued through a red light. Police back up was called and a number of cars joined the chase.
Slater collided with a white van on Kirkleatham[24] Road before speeding on to the A174, on the wrong side of the road. He crashed into a car travelling in the opposite direction and entered Eston[25] Square at 60mph.
He smashed into another car and careered around a roundabout the wrong way and after speeding down Ormesby[26] High Street.
On the roundabout he collided for the fifth time in 11 minutes.
He got out of the car and fled, but was caught minutes later. Slater pleaded guilty to dangerous driving; and driving with no licence or insurance.
Slater, of Lockwood Court in Eston, Middlesbrough[27], was handed a 14 month sentence, suspended for two years. He was ordered to carry out 100-hours of unpaid work and pay GBP300 in court costs. for two years.
He was ordered to carry out 100-hours of unpaid work and pay GBP300 in court costs.
Slater was disqualified from driving for two-years and he must pass an extended driving test before he is allowed on the roads.
Leon Lane

Leon Lane
The "binge-drinking" carer seen driving a stolen van, was caught after he sped into a dead end in Stockton[28] as the police chased him. Lane, 29, was spotted behind the wheel of a Peugeot Partner van at 4am on October 27, last year.
On Friday, Teesside Crown Court[29] heard that Lane, who has two previous convictions for dangerous driving, drove away from the police. Officers chased him as he went through a red light and reached 50mph in a 30-zone, Shaun Dryden, prosecuting, said.
When he unwittingly drove into a dead end, he was arrested as he was climbing out of the van.
Lane refused to give saliva for a drugs swipe and at the police station, he refused to take part in a drugs blood test.
He later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving; aggravated vehicle-taking under joint enterprise law; driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance; failure to provide a specimen; and to failing to surrender to court. Lane was previously disqualified from driving after being convicted of careless driving.
Lane, of Ensign Court in Hartlepool[30], was jailed for 13-months. He was disqualified from driving for four-and-a-half-years.
Euan Corbett

The killer driver fled the country after causing the death of his friend.
Euan Corbett's Audi A3 left the road and "bounced twice" before it overturned after he tried to negotiate a bend on the North York moors at over 100mph on May 2, 2020.
His passenger and friend, Shane Finn, 21, was taken to James Cook University Hospital[31] by air ambulance, but he died from his injuries two days later. When another car stopped to help at the scene on Knott Road, which is north of Rosedale Abbey, Corbett, lied to them.
He told the woman who stopped to help Mr Finn not to say he was there when the emergency services asked who was at the scene of the crash. He claimed that another man had been driving; and that he had fled the scene - something that the court heard distracted the police investigation.
A collision expert later found that Corbett was driving at speeds between 100 and 120 mph.
He had no driving licence or insurance. The brakes of his Audi were worn, although that was not found to be a contributing factor to the crash.
Teesside Crown Court[32] has heard that Corbett fled the country when he was granted bail. He failed to turn up to court in 2022.
The judge described him as "swanning around Europe - taunting the police and taunting the family". He wasn't arrested until July 2025, on his return to the UK.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving; causing death whilst uninsured and having no licence; and breach of bail. Corbett, of HMP Hull, was jailed for 15-years-and- two-months.
He was banned from driving for 14-years-and-one-month.
Jordan Fish

Jordan Fish
The danger-driving dad "could have killed someone" in a police chase which saw him reach speeds of 80mph. Jordan Fish was banned from the roads in April but just under three weeks later got behind the wheel.
The 25-year-old was recognised by a police officer as he waited in traffic in Darlington[33]. As the officer pulled alongside him and shouted: "Stay where you are Jordan," he fled in the Mercedes vehicle.
However, Teesside Crown Court[34] heard that Fish feels "unsafe walking alone" due to being stabbed in a "targeted" attack.
Fish, who works for a plumbing and gas company, appeared in court via video link from HMP Holme House on Wednesday for sentencing.
He previously admitted dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance in Darlington on April 23.
The activated Fish's 24 week suspended sentence and jailed him for 14 months for dangerous driving.
Fish, of Heatherburn Court, Newton Aycliffe, was disqualified from driving for four years and six months and must also complete an extended retest before he gets behind the wheel again.
