Tragedy as man dies in hospital seven weeks on from Normanby Road crash

A man has died in hospital seven weeks on from a collision that closed a busy road for five hours. Emergency services were called to the junction of Normanby Road and The Avenue in Teesville [1], following the crash on Thursday, September 25.

The incident involved an off-road motorbike and a van. Cleveland Police [2] confirmed at the time that both riders of the motorbike suffered serious injuries and were taken to James Cook University Hospital [3], in Middlesbrough [4]. Advertisement

The driver of the van received minor injuries.

The road was closed between the junction with Outwood Academy Normanby [5] and Sycamore Road for a number of hours as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Cleveland Police has confirmed that 27-year-old Anthony James Temple, who lived in Thornaby [6], has died in hospital today. A spokesperson for the force said: "Anthony leaves behind his brother and partner and he will be sadly missed.

"They have provided this photo of him, and have asked for privacy as they come to terms with this devastating news. Our thoughts remain with all who knew Anthony at this very difficult time."

Enquiries are continuing and a second man remains in hospital receiving treatment.

The force is appealing for the driver of a white Seat Ibiza which was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward as they may be a valuable witness. Advertisement Advertisement
