‘Unknown vehicles’ involved in Wiltshire crash that killed pedestrian

An elderly woman has died after being hit by several vehicles. The pedestrian, in her 80, was involved a fatal collision on the A361 Caen Hill near Mayenne Place in Devizes, Wiltshire. The fatal collision happened at 6.13pm last night (Friday, November 14).

Police in the area said the woman was declared deceased at the scene and her next of kin have been informed. A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said one of the vehicles involved stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made.

Other vehicles are thought to have been involved but haven't stopped at the scene.

The force's spokesperson said: "It is possible that the drivers are unaware they have struck someone and officers are urgently appealing for them to come forward. The road remains closed while an investigation is carried out.

It is likely to reopen shortly. " Sergeant James Barrett, from the roads policing unit, added: "This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family. "We are urgently working to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

While one vehicle stopped at the scene, it's believed that other unknown vehicles may have been involved and we are really keen to speak with any drivers who were passing Caen Hill at that time, and thought they may have struck an object in the road." He added: "We are also keen to speak with any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage from that time." Anyone with dashcam footage or information about the crash is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 282 of November 14.
