Update as Wiltshire man in court over pedestrian’s death two years on

Ben Morgan, of Kennet Road in Devizes, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, November 25, accused of causing the death of Justin Edhouse by careless driving. Justin, a 49-year-old from Chippenham, died in a crash at one of the town's busiest junctions, where the A4 Avenue La Fleche meets Gladstone Road near the town centre, on Sunday, December 17, 2023. Police say Justin died after he was struck by a white BMW 330E.

37-year-old Morgan has now been charged with causing Justin's death and is scheduled to appear at Swindon Crown Court on January 9 next year following his initial appearance. Following the crash, Justin's family paid tribute to him and described him as someone who was "beloved" by many. null (Image: Wiltshire Police)

They said: "Justin was a beloved husband, son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed by not just his wife, family, friends and colleagues but by everyone who ever knew him." Floral tributes were left at the scene of the incident in its immediate aftermath, and fresh ones have been placed on multiple occasions since then. An investigation was launched on the night of the crash, with police cordoning off the scene and carrying out enquiries.

Nearly two years after Justin's death, police confirmed that progress had been made on the case in a statement revealing that Morgan had been charged. It is alleged that he was driving the BMW at the time of the incident and was responsible for Justin's death. Suggested reading
