60 minute delays on M1 after police deployed to lorry crash

Two lanes were closed on the M1 after police[1] were deployed to the scene of a lorry crash that delayed drivers by up to a hour. Half of the lanes on the M1 southbound between J29 for Chesterfield and J28 for Mansfield were shut[2] following the disruptive collision on Thursday afternoon (December 18). Derbyshire Police[3] and National Highways traffic officers[4] were called to the scene.
At one point there were delays of up to 60 minutes on approach, with queues heading back to the J29A for Bolsover. In a post at around 4.25pm, National Highways said: "Two lanes (of four) closed on the #M1 south between J29 #Chesterfield & J28 #Mansfield following a collision involving a lorry. Derbyshire Police and our traffic officers [are] on scene, with recovery now arriving on scene. [There are] delays of up to 60 minutes on approach, back to J29A for #Bolsover."
The lorry was recovered and the lanes open again by 5.15pm, but congestion lasted until 7.15pm.
