A35: Police and fire issue update after two-vehicle crash

A section of the A35 was closed outside Bridport near Finch Lane on Friday evening from around 6pm, with the cause of the crash suspected to be due to the amount of standing water on the road. Emergency services rushed to the scene with a road closure in place. There were no reports of any injuries and police left the scene at around 8.10pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 6.04pm on Friday 5 December 2025 of a two vehicle collision on the A35 outside Bridport near Finch Lane.

"Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services and road closures were put in place. "There were no reports of any serious injuries.

The vehicles were recovered and the local authority was notified due to standing water on the road. "The road was reopened and officers left the scene at around 8.10pm." On Friday, a spokesperson for the force said: "We believe the accident was caused due to the amount of water on the road.

We urge drivers to show extra caution when the road conditions are poor, like they have been today. A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called at 6:02pm on Friday (5 December), with reports of a road traffic collision on Dorchester Road, Bridport. "Two crews from Bridport attended and on arrival found one car and one van involved in a collision.

Firefighters used small tools to make the vehicles safe and our stop came in at 6:23pm."
