Driver dozed off at the wheel and left man with brain injury

A lying driver who repeatedly denied causing a crash that left a man with a brain injury has been jailed. After staying at the Ibis Hotel in Coventry[1], Dominic Johnson crashed his Vauxhall Movano van into a Suzuki.

Johnson, 47, is believed to have dozed off at the wheel while travelling along the A141 in the early hours of June 29, 2023. He drifted into the opposite carriageway and collided with the Suzuki before leaving the road and ending up 100 feet away in a field.

Police said the Suzuki driver, a 56-year-old man from Lincolnshire, suffered life-changing head injuries.

He told Peterborough Crown Court that the crash resulted in him losing his job, needing surgery, and struggling with anxiety and PTSD.
