The incident happened on the A487 Porthmadog bypass at around 9pm on Saturday night, December 20. It is expected to remain closed for some time.
Here is everything you need to know:
- North Wales Police (NWP) is advising road users to avoid the area and use the signed diversion route.
- Chief Insp Trystan Bevan of the NWP Roads Policing Unit thanked drivers for their patience.
- He said: "This is sadly being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision. I offer my deepest condolences to the families at this difficult time.
- "I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the A487 between 21.00-21.40 on 20/12/25 who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage, to get in touch with police." For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter[2] here
- Anyone with information is asked to contact the force via its webchat service or by calling 101, quoting reference C196768.
- The North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA), which manages the region's main roads, classified the incident as "high impact" with "delays likely".
- Road traffic sensors indicate little in the way of congestion hotspots currently, as would be expected for a Sunday morning.
- Nearby, the B4410 also remains closed both ways at Garreg, between the A498 and the A4085. This is due to flooding.
