Man fatally struck by lorry as he exited car

A man has died after being hit by a lorry on a dual carriageway.

It happened on the A33 near Swallowfield, Berkshire, at about 00:50 GMT.

Police believe the 33-year-old was the driver of a car involved in an earlier collision and was struck as he got out of the vehicle.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene, no arrests have been made and the man's next of kin have been informed.

Thames Valley Police said officers had been responding to reports of a collision involving a black Mercedes estate car on the A33 near Barge Lane.

It is believed the driver of the Mercedes got out of the vehicle before being struck by the HGV.

He received emergency treatment but died at the scene.

The A33 was closed southbound between the M4 junction 11 and Riseley.

Sgt Mark Dunne of the Roads Policing Unit said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly died in this incident.

"We are supporting them at this extremely upsetting time."

The force has appealed for witnesses and asked anyone who was driving on the section of the A33 to check their dashboard cameras for anything that could help the investigation.
