Northumbria Police update as pedestrian suffers head injury after being hit by car in North East

At around 7.30pm on Saturday, December 6, a man in his 40s was the victim of a collision with the vehicle.
The crash took place on the crossroads of Southwick Road and Newcastle Road, and this area was attended by the emergency services soon after, with eyewitnesses saying that there was a large police presence at the scene.
Thankfully, the pedestrian's head injury is not life-threatening, as he was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital[3] for further treatment, and he has since been discharged. The driver, a man in his 20s, was also taken to the same hospital as a precaution, but he has also been discharged.
Police enquiries into the incident continue, with officers asking for anyone with information to get in touch with them, and police shared a statement with the full details of the incident, and the circumstances around the crash at the weekend.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 7.30pm on Saturday, December 6, we received a report of a collision on the crossroad of Southwick Road and Newcastle Road in the Sunderland area.
"It was reported that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian.
Emergency services attended where it was found the pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, had sustained a head injury, not believed to be life-threatening.
"He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been discharged. The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 20s, was also taken to hospital as a precaution, he has since been discharged.
"Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information can send us a direct message on social media or use live chat and report forms on our website. Those unable to make contact in these ways can call 101, and please quote reference: NP-20251206-0964."
Article continues belowAs previously reported, a North East Ambulance Service[4] spokeswoman said: "We were called to a road traffic incident involving a car and a pedestrian on Newcastle Road, Sunderland shortly before 7.30pm on 6 December.
We dispatched two double crewed ambulances and two patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
