Teenager, 17, dies after crash on A19 between A179 and Elwick
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 11.15pm on Saturday evening (December 13), on the A19 southbound between the A179 and the Elwick turn off. The driver of the silver Ford C-Max, believed to be a 17-year-old boy, had suffered significant head injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 
A spokesperson from Cleveland Police said: "The family of the boy have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers. "Our thoughts remain with the boy's family and friends at this extremely difficult time." The road remained closed throughout the night due to "the seriousness of the incident", causing lengthy traffic delays.
North East Ambulance Service confirmed the crash involved a single vehicle. A spokesperson said: "We attended a single-vehicle road traffic incident on the A19 southbound near the slip road to Elwick at 11.11pm last night (December 13). "We dispatched a paramedic ambulance and a clinical team leader to the scene."
A witness at the scene described seeing a "badly burned car" being removed from the road on the back of a breakdown truck.
