Traffic delays after HGV strikes barrier on M6 near Penrith

It happened between Junction 42 for the A6 at Carlisle South and Junction 41[1] for the B5305 at Catterlen. The incident was first reported via the AA website shortly before 6 pm. National Highways has since confirmed the collision occurred on the southbound carriageway at around 5 pm, when an HGV struck the central reservation barrier.
No injuries were reported, however, the barrier sustained significant damage and was flattened in the impact. Traffic officers from the Lowhurst outstation attended the scene to manage vehicles past the incident, while specialist recovery teams were brought in. Recovery work was completed by around 8 pm on Monday.
Lane three remains closed in both directions while arrangements are made to repair the damaged barrier.
National Highways said the ongoing restrictions are not currently causing any significant congestion.
