A303: Another pothole bursts tyres on 10 cars in Hampshire

A man was forced to wait in the dark for two hours for recovery after a pothole on the A303 slip road into Picket Twenty near Andover burst his car's tyre. He was subsequently joined by nine more drivers whose cars were damaged by the pothole. It happened just two days after another pothole burst the tyres of at least 14 cars on the A303 slip road between Popham and Basingstoke.

The pothole claimed the tyres of 10 cars Matt Bull, who was heading into Picket Twenty on Saturday, January 10, when his car fell victim to the 7-inch pothole. He said: "Last night [January 10] I burst my tyre on the slip road off the A303 into Picket Twenty.

"The police arrived after four more cars burst their tyres. The police left after 15 minutes. "A National Highways van showed, I directed him to the pothole, and he also left after 10 minutes.

"While I waited two hours for recovery, more cars burst their tyres.

10 cars in total, the police made no effort to cordon off or block the road in any way. "I do not know how many others may have had issues after I left. The pothole was about 7inches deep, a foot or so wide and 2/3foot in length"

National Highways has been contacted for a comment.
