‘Deeply devoted’ grandparents killed in crash

The family of "deeply devoted" grandparents who died in a crash on the A1 last week alongside their dog have paid tribute to them.

Christine and Stephen Routledge, from Berwick, in Northumberland, died when a heavy goods vehicle collided with their Skoda as they were travelling on the A1, near Buckton, at 07:40 GMT on 14 January, Northumbria Police said.

The HGV had been travelling northbound when it collided with the Skoda and another car on the southbound carriageway.

Mr Routledge, who was 64, died at the scene while 66-year-old Mrs Routledge was taken to hospital where she later passed away.

Their dog Bear also died from injuries sustained in the crash.
