Driver seriously injured after car crashed into HGV on A303

The road was closed in both directions between the A350 near Chicklade and the A36 junction for Deptford and Wylye for much of Thursday afternoon. Police officers and paramedics attended the scene of the collision. Vehicle recovery began at around 5.30pm, the eastbound carriageway reopened by 6.40pm, and the westbound side reopened at around 7.30pm.

Drivers were diverted away from the area. A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "A man in his 30s has been seriously injured following a road traffic collision on the A303 at Wylye at about 1.20pm on Thursday, January 8. "A car is thought to have struck a stationary heavy goods vehicle.

"The driver has been taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries and his next of kin have been informed.

"The A303 was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to attend - although it is expected to reopen shortly.

"Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage are asked to call 101 quoting log number 152 of January 8."
