Grandmother killed in crash was ‘guiding light’

The family of an "adored" great grandmother who died after being struck by a car in Lancashire at the weekend have paid tribute to her, calling her their "guiding light".

Sylvia McKearnan, 89, was hit by a Mercedes A200 car at the junction of Dunkirk Lane and Paradise Lane in Leyland just after 07:00 GMT on 10 January.

In a statement the woman's family said: "We are heartbroken by the loss of our adored mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and auntie whose kindness, warmth and love touched all our lives."

Lancashire Police said the driver, who was unhurt, stopped at the scene and officers have appealed for information or footage from the scene.

The family statement read: "Her sudden passing in this tragic car accident leaves an emptiness in our hearts that cannot be filled.

"She was the guiding light of our family, and her memory will forever be treasured."
