Lorry fire closes A47 in Cambridgeshire before rush hour

A lorry fire closed part of a Cambridgeshire[1] A- road[2]. The A47 westbound between Crowland Road and the A1139 Eye Road was closed this morning (Tuesday, January 6) just after 6am. Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue and Cambridgeshire Police attended the scene.

A fire spokesperson said: "At 6.02am crews from Dogsthorpe and Ely were called to a lorry fire on A47 near Eye. "Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire and returned to their stations by 7.40am. The cause of the fire was accidental."

A police spokesperson confirmed no one was injured. The spokesperson said: "The fire service informed us at 6.06am this morning of a lorry fire on the Eye roundabout. Officers assisted with road closures at the scene.

No injuries reported." The vehicle has been recovered and traffic has returned to normal along the road. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "Traffic returned to normal, earlier vehicle fire on A47 Eye Road Westbound between Crowland Road (Eye Green Roundabout) and the Littlewood Roundabout."
