Man arrested over double fatal A1 Northumberland crash released under investigation
A driver and a passenger in their 60s died in the collision at Buckton which saw the A1 closed by police for hours

A man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a double fatal crash on the A1 in Northumberland has been released under investigation. Emergency services were called to the collision at Buckton, between Belford and Haggerston, last Wednesday morning.
A HGV travelling northbound had collided with a Skoda and Audi both travelling southbound. Four fire crews were called to the scene, including the specialist rescue unit from West Hartford, and the road was closed between the A697 at Alnwick Moor and the B6525 at Lowick for much of the day[1].
The male driver and female passenger of the Skoda, both in their 60s, died from their injuries in the crash.
The Audi driver, a man in his 50s was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be serious.

Officers from Northumbria Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit appealed for more information[2] into the collision on Thursday, and appealed for those with dashcam footage to come forward.
