PC charged with causing death of former photographer

A police officer has been charged with causing the death of a former newspaper photographer by careless driving.
Trevor Bartlett, 80, was hit by a police van while using a pedestrian crossing on the A52 Derby Road in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, on 19 December 2023 and died at the scene.
Police constable Steven Allcock, 33, has been charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
He is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on 29 January, the IOPC added.
Bartlett, who used to work for the Nottingham Post newspaper, was especially known for his work with Nottingham Forest and his friendship with the team's former manager Brian Clough.
Following his death, former colleagues described him as a "dazzlingly brilliant" photographer and "the kindest, most generous bloke".
The IOPC said it had consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) during its investigation, then referred a file of evidence for the CPS to consider any potential criminal offences.
This then led to the authorisation of the charge against Allcock, the IOPC said.
