Royal Mail van in horror crash with car as emergency crews swarm scene
A horror smash involving a Royal Mail van and a car has closed a major road this morning. At around 8am today, emergency services raced to the A663 Broadway in Chadderton, Oldham, following reports of a collision[1] involving a car and the postal van. The main road was closed by Greater Manchester[2] Police between the A627 Elk Mill Roundabout to the A669.
While police and fire crews scrambled to the scene, both drivers are reportedly well with no injuries reported. Pictures from the scene show the front driver's side of the car severely damaged, reports Manchester Evening News[3]. Meanwhile, a Royal Mail van can be seen at the impact site and is believed to have been involved.
The car appears badly damaged following the crash in Oldham this morning (MEN MEDIA)A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 8am this morning (Saturday 31st January), one fire engine from Chadderton fire station was called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a truck on Broadway, Chadderton.
"The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters using a Tirfor Winch worked with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the vehicle and area safe. Both drivers were assessed at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.
It is believed a Royal Mail truck was involved (MEN MEDIA)"Firefighters were in attendance for around thirty minutes."
The road reopened by 10am.
