Three car crash on Derby Street Bolton with police called

The crash happened just before 8pm on Derby Street. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed to The Bolton News[1] that officers were called to the scene at around 7.50pm. Police believe there were no serious injuries and the incident has been recorded as a "damage-only road traffic collision".

Video footage seen by The Bolton News[2] shows a black car lying on its side in the road, with two police cars[3] positioned on either side. Footage from the scene (Image: Video) A black Volkswagen, that appears to have sustained damage to the front of the vehicle, can also be seen nearby, while a police van blocked the road to other drivers.

The road surface was covered in debris following the collision. In a second video, also shown to The Bolton News, a man can be seen being helped out of the overturned vehicle by three men before emergency services arrived at the scene. The circumstances surrounding how the collision occurred are not yet clear.

In 2024, council officials said they would be shortening the bus lanes along St Helens Road[5] and Derby Street in response to a series of crashes, some serious and even fatal.

The council confirmed that it had secured "safer roads funding" to help improve safety around St Helens Road in particular.

At the time Cllr Abdul Atcha, who represents Rumworth, said: "There is a concerning issue of road traffic accidents occurring at St Helens Road and Derby Street."
