Three people seriously hurt in horror crash with major road shut for hours

Three people were rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash which shut a major road for several hours.
Emergency services were called to the incident on the A585 near Windy Harbour[1] at 6.16pm on Saturday (Janaury 17). Lancashire[2] Police said it was reported that before to the collision, a white Peugeot Bipper van had broken down and was being pushed to the side of the road by the driver and another man who had stopped to help.
While it was being pushed, a blue Volkswagen Transporter taxi collided with the Bipper. The driver of the Bipper, a man in his 60s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
The second man pushing the Bipper, in his 30s, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are thankfully not thought to be life threatening or changing. The driver of the taxi, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with a serious injury, which is also not thought to be life threatening or changing.
A woman in her 60s, the passenger of the Bipper suffered minor injuries.
The road was closed for several to allow emergency services to respond.
Police enquiries are ongoing and officers are now appealing for information, dashcam and CCTV footage.
Sgt Thomas Cooper-Malley, of our Roads Policing Unit said: "A man has suffered some significant injuries following this collision and first and foremost our thoughts remain with him and his loved ones as he continues to receive treatment. Our enquiries are very much in their early stages, and I am appealing directly to you, the public, for your assistance.
"If you have dashcam or CCTV footage of the collision, or of the A585 near to Windy Harbour between 6pm and 6:20pm please do get in touch with us. We are also aware that there may be people who witnessed the collision that we haven't yet spoken to.
"If this is you, or if you know someone who was travelling on that road at the time, please let us know."
