Two people die in three-vehicle A1 crash

Two people have died in a crash involving three vehicles on the A1.

A lorry travelling northbound on the A1 near Buckton Moor in Northumberland collided with a Skoda and an Audi car travelling southbound at about 07:40 GMT, Northumbria Police said.

The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 60s, died at the scene, while a woman passenger died later in hospital, the force said.

It led to the road being closed for most of Wednesday[1] between Alnwick and Lowick.

Appealing for witnesses, police said a man in his 30s had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in police custody.
