A13 Rainham lorry crash with person in hospital and traffic

The emergency services were called to the A13 near Ferry Lane in Rainham at around 1.45pm today (February 19). Paramedics took a person to hospital where their condition is not yet known. LIVE updates as A13 blocked by overturned lorry with SEVERE delays[1]

Pictures show an orange lorry with a smashed windscreen on its side on the road. Gravel and detritus is spilled across the road. The A13 is expected to stay closed for "several hours", according to National Highways, with long delays of 60 minutes.

Firefighters also responded and the Metropolitan Police remain on the scene. A "complex" recovery operation is underway, according to the AA. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters responded to reports of a road traffic collision on the A13, near the junction with Ferry Lane.

"The collision involved a heavy goods vehicle. Crews worked to make the scene safe and provided immediate emergency care to a member of the public, prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service. "The Brigade was first called about the incident at 1347 and the incident was over for crews by 1423, when responsibility for the scene was left with the Metropolitan Police Service."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.46pm today (19 February) to reports of a road traffic collision on the A13, Rainham.

"We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene.

"We treated one patient and took them to a local hospital."
