‘Cowardly’ killer driver left mum-of-two for dead as he ran away from 88mph crash

A mum-of-two was killed as she made her way home from a Christmas[1] theatre trip when her car was hit by a vehicle travelling at 88mph, a court has heard.

Claire Laybourne was driving her mum home when tragedy struck on the A19 in North Tyneside last year.

The 39-year-old mum was attempting to overtake a broken-down car in rainy conditions when she was hit by 28-year-old Ryan Scott at high speeds.
