Emergency services rush to scene of serious M6 crash with road fully closed northbound

The M6 is closed northbound between junction 32 and 33. The M6 is closed northbound after a serious crash overnight involving a lorry and two cars. Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash on the M6 northbound between junction 32 and 33 shortly before midnight on Sunday evening (15 February).

The severity of the crash meant that the M6 was fully closed in both directions for several hours, although the southbound carriageway has since reopened.

Accident investigation work is taking place on the northbound carriageway. Traffic is diverting via the A6 Garstang Road through Barton and there are significant delays heading northbound on that road.

There are severe delays on approach to the M6 junction 32 to join the M55 as a result. Traffic England is reporting the road may not reopen until around 1pm. A spokesperson for police said: "We want to let you know that the M6 is currently closed Northbound between Junctions 32 - 33 due to a serious road traffic collision (Southbound is now open).

"We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time whilst we assess the situation. "In the meantime, we'd recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination. "We'll keep tabs on what's happening and update you here once the motorway is back open.

"As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you're out and about today." Support Blog Preston: Keep our community reporting going and view the website without any adverts too.
