Emergency services were called to the scene and traffic officers are managing the closure while investigations continue.

The anticlockwise[2] carriageway is shut between junction 27 for the M11 and junction 26 at Waltham Abbey after a van left the road and came to rest on the verge.

National Highways has described the incident as serious, while Essex Police remain at the scene.

There is heavy traffic approaching the closure.

The van reportedly left the carriageway before coming to rest on the verge.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to an incident on the M25 near Junction 26.

"It was reported that a casualty had suffered a medical episode.

"They have been left in the care of the ambulance service.

"The road is due to be reopened imminently."
