M25 lane closures to remain for ‘hours’ after lorry crash

A lorry "left the road" after a "tyre blowout" just before 11am today between Brentwood and Epping, damaging a power cable which saw emergency services close the road for around five hours. The area has now been made safe by the power network after wires were exposed by the damage but emergency services remain at the scene, a second lorry was also damaged during the incident. Emergency services have now partially reopened the road, however lane closures are expected to remain in place until later this evening as recovery work takes place; lanes one and two are currently shut.

"It was reported that a lorry had left the road between junctions 28 and 27 southbound following a tyre blowout shortly before 11am today.

"The lorry collided with the reservation, and a power cable was damaged: it has now been made safe by the power network. "A second lorry has been damaged resulting in a damaged windscreen. No one was reported to be seriously injured in this collision.

"The road was closed in both directions whilst emergency services including ECFRS and Highways England responded. "Track A is now reopened. "Lane closures remain on track B southbound although lanes three and four are now opened.

"We'd like to thank all our partners who have helped throughout the incident and the public for their patience and understanding.

"The road closure will remain in place for several hours yet and will be managed by Highways England."
