The ambulance service has also provided an update on the crash between Junction 7 for Great Barr and Junction 6, Spaghetti Junction, for the A38(M) Aston Expressway for Birmingham city centre and also for Erdington. That crash was a little over half an hour after the one in the opposite direction and involved a lorry and a car. The car driver suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC (road traffic collision) between junctions 7 and 6 on the M6 near Great Barr at 9.15am.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews were informed a car and a lorry had been involved in a collision.

"The driver of the car, a man, was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene."
