Man charged over fatal A690 Durham Road crash in Sunderland

Reece Roberts, 27, of Florida Street in Pallion, Sunderland, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst uninsured, causing death whilst disqualified and aggravated vehicle taking, following the incident on the A690 Durham Road in Sunderland. He is due to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court today (February 17). The charges are in connection with an incident that happened at about 11pm on Saturday (February 14), which saw a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the road in Farringdon, near the junction with Arbroath Road.

It was understood that a woman had been crossing the road when she was struck by a black Volvo XC90. Emergency services attended where the pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman's next of kin continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

Sergeant Greg Huntley, of Northumbria Police, said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family as they attempt to navigate their incredibly tragic loss. "With your help, we hope to get much-deserved answers for the woman's loved ones.
