Police issue update after woman died in crash

The woman, who was travelling to North Wales, died on the A534 near the border as arrests are made

Police have issued an update after a woman died when a van overturned on its way to North Wales, over the weekend. The crash happened on the A534, at Barton, near Farndon, near the Wales-England border, on Saturday morning.

A 24-year-old woman was tragically killed when the white Ford Transit crashed after leaving the road. The van was travelling towards North Wales at the time, said Cheshire Police.

Following the incident, the driver, a 27-year-old man, and a second passenger, a 21-year-old man, were both taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In an update today (Monday) Cheshire Police have confirmed the two men involved have now been bailed, as enquiries continue. Formal identification of the woman, has also taken place, the force has confirmed, although she has not yet been named. Officers were called to the scene at 5.50am at Barton, a small village eight miles east of Wrexham[2].

Three crews from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, also attended which said the van had "left the highway and overturned onto a field".

Firefighters used extrication equipment to access the vehicle and release the woman passenger.

She was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
