Thousands raised in support of family after mum’s tragic ‘hit-and-run’ death

Thousands of pounds have been raised to support the grieving family of a mum who tragically lost her life in a "hit-and-run" crash on Valentine's Day.

More than GBP11,000 has so far been collected for the loved ones of Diane Jones, who was struck by a Volvo XC90 while crossing Durham Road in Farringdon, Sunderland, just before 11pm on Saturday (November 14).

Sadly, Diane, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene - and a man was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Advertisement Advertisement

In the days following her death, tributes flooded in for Diane, from Thorney Close, and a GoFundMe page was started[1] to help pay for her send off.

The page reads: "Diane's family are completely heartbroken by her being cruelly taken away in this tragic way, it has had a huge emotional and financial impact on them.

"Her colleagues have decided to set up this GoFundMe to raise funds for Hannah and her family to try and help towards Diane's funeral expenses, and to try and ease their stress in this devastating situation. Advertisement

He appeared South Tyneside Magistrates' Court that same day.
