Two women have died after a crash on the A10. The police were called to the area between Littleport and Ely[1] at 6:40pm on Thursday, February 12, following reports of a crash involving a car and a lorry.
The head-on crash involved an HGV fuel tanker and an Audi on the single carriageway road, which runs parallel to Chettisham. The lorry left the road and came to rest in a nearby field.
The Audi was pushed 100m further up the road.
The driver of the Audi, a 25-year-old woman, and the front seat passenger, a 71-year-old woman, who were both from Littleport, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A 40-year-old man from Basildon, who was driving the HGV, was checked over by paramedics but was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was bailed until May 10.
The A10 between Ely and Littleport is likely to remain closed for the rest of the day. Cambridgeshire[2] Police has launched an investigation into the incident and is asking for witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles in the moments leading up to it should report it to the police. You can report it through the force website quoting Operation Eastcote or incident 455 of 12 February.
If you do not have access to the internet, you should call 101.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Three ambulances, a paramedic car and East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to A10 near Littleport yesterday evening following reports of a serious road traffic collision. Three patients were assessed, but two had sadly died at the scene."
