West Lothian drivers warning due to overnight closures on M8

A series of overnight closures of the M8 westbound carriageway between Junctions 3A and 4 is planned, as part of the ongoing major project to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 local road over the motorway between Bathgate and Blackburn.
The first overnight closure will take place on the night of Wednesday, February 18, between 8pm and 6am. Further overnight closures are anticipated from March 14 to 22, also between 8pm and 6am each night. Advertisement

During these closures, a diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from M8 Junction 3A to M8 Junction 4, via the A779, A7066, and the A801, adding an estimated 1.1 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland's South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: "This bridge over the M8 is being refurbished to ensure it can continue to provide safe and reliable service for decades to come.

"Works are now required below the bridge, therefore overnight carriageway closures are necessary for the safety of workers and road users.

Meanwhile, the M8 Junction 3 eastbound on-slip will be closed between 10pm and 6am on the nights of February 18 and 19, as part of investigation works on the bridge carrying the A899 Livingston Road over the motorway being carried out by Transport Scotland's operating company BEAR Scotland.
A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted via the A899 to Dechmont Roundabout, the A89 to Newbridge Roundabout, and the M9 southbound to join the M8 eastbound at Junction 2. This diversion will approximately 0.8 miles and 7 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
David Bishop added: "This programme of maintenance is key to ensuring the structural integrity of this bridge and extending its service life.
"If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.
