Woman who died in Sunderland ‘hit and run’ named

A woman who died in a "hit and run" in Sunderland has been named as Diane Jones. The 59-year-old, of Thorney Close in Sunderland, died at the scene after being struck by a black Volvo XC90 on the A690 Durham Road in Farringdon, near to Arbroath Road.
Northumbria Police says that specially trained officers are supporting Diane's loved ones at this difficult time. Sgt Greg Huntley, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I can't begin to imagine the pain that Diane's loved ones are experiencing - as they process this devastating loss.
"We will do all we can to support them, as we seek answers following the collision.
We're very grateful to those who have come forward to support our investigation to date."
ChronicleLive reported earlier today[1] that Reece Roberts, 27, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst uninsured, cause death whilst disqualified and aggravated vehicle taking.
He appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court this morning, where he entered no pleas.
His case was adjourned to Tuesday, March 17 at Newcastle Crown Court.
Sgt Huntley added: "A man has since been charged in connection with the collision, so we'd urge everyone to respect the legal proceedings and avoid any speculation.
