A seven-year-old boy who was tragically killed on a major Midlands road[1] has been named as a 'beautiful, loving young boy who will be sorely missed' as his family paid tribute.

Isaac Radbourne lost his life after being struck by two vehicles, a blue Vauxhall Mokka and a white Mercedes[2], on the A38 in Swinfen, Staffordshire, around 5am on Saturday. Staffordshire Police reported that Isaac died after he found his way onto the northbound carriageway from his home, despite measures in place to prevent such incidents.

Now, his family have issued a heartbreaking statement[3], paying tribute to the "beautiful young boy".

"Isaac was a beautiful, loving young boy who will be sorely missed by his parents, grandparents, great grandparents and wider family", his family expressed in a statement. "Please respect our family and allow us time to grieve in privacy."

The drivers of both vehicles stayed at the scene following the collision, a police spokesperson confirmed, and are continuing to assist officers with their investigation, reports Birmingham Live[6]. The force added: "We understand the impact of this incident on the local community and the social media speculation that has followed.

"We ask that Isaac's family are given the space and privacy needed to grieve during this unprecedented time and their wishes are respected.

Specialist officers will continue to support his family."

Police are also appealing for anybody who witnessed the incident or who may have footage to come forward. The force said: "If you saw the collision or if you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that could help us, please get in touch. Cal 101, quoting incident 109 of 7 March, email collision investigators directly on [email protected]."

Speaking after the incident, Sergeant Chris Sweetmore, of Staffordshire Constabulary, said: "The collision occurred on the northbound carriageway, but we are keen to hear from witnesses who saw anyone on either side of the A38 at Swinfen around 5am."

The police officer continued: "This incident is devastating for everyone involved and we continue to investigate the circumstances.

Speculation as to what may have occurred is not helpful for the family or the wider investigation and I would ask that people refrain from putting comments on social media as to their thoughts and opinions."

Swinfen is just south of Lichfield and is off the A38 which connects the cathedral city to Birmingham in the south and Derby in the northeast. It is a major commuter route into Birmingham and Lichfield.

It comes after a 24-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision on a dual carriageway during a police pursuit. Taylor Jenkins, from Edinburgh, was a passenger in a white BMW which crashed as it was travelling south on the northbound carriageway of the A19 near Sunderland.

She died at the scene of the crash in the early hours of March 1, Northumbria Police[7] said.

A man has appeared in court in connection with the crash. Another passenger, in his 20s, remained in hospital in a life-threatening condition. The BMW collided with a VW Sharan whose driver required hospital treatment but his injuries were not serious.
