Forensic specialists are examining a vehicle at a services whilst two sections of the M6 motorway in Cheshire and Lancashire remain closed following a fatal incident.

Cheshire Police have confirmed the motorway closures near Warrington and near Bamber Bridge are connected to the tragic incident earlier this morning (Saturday, March 7) when a pedestrian was "struck by several cars".

The individual, whose gender or age has not been disclosed, was hit by the vehicles between junction 21 and 21A on the northbound carriageway of the motorway. This section of the motorway is closed off whilst investigation work is being carried out.

Police have confirmed the closure on the northbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 30 is linked to the same incident, reports the Manchester Evening News[3].

Tebay services in Cumbria have also been sealed off "for the forensic examination of a vehicle that is believed to have been involved".

In a statement, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 2.50am today, Saturday 7 March, police were called to reports of a serious collision on the M6 between junctions 21 and 21A.

"Officers in attendance at the scene found that a pedestrian had been struck by several vehicles.

Sadly, the pedestrian was found dead at the scene.

"Road closures are in place between junctions 21-21A (Cheshire) and 28-30 (Lancashire) while emergency services work to clear the area.

A cordon is also in place at Tebay services in Cumbria to allow for the forensic examination of a vehicle that is believed to have been involved.
