The family of a "loving gentleman" have paid tribute to him after he died following a crash earlier this year. Emergency services were called to Walton Hall Avenue shortly after 10.25pm on January 31 following reports a man had been struck by a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

The victim, 90-year-old Andy Madden, suffered multiple injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital in a "critical" condition[1]. Police have now confirmed that he died last week.

Paying tribute to Andy, his family said: "Andy was a loving gentleman whose kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew him.

A devoted family man, he placed love and care at the heart of everything he did. Andy's presence brought comfort and laughter, and his generosity of spirit will never be forgotten.

"Andy was a lifelong season ticket holder at Liverpool FC. His passion for the club was part of who he was, it was shared with pride, tradition, and countless memories over the years.

It was more than football, it was joy and a lifelong devotion.

"Andy is deeply loved and sorely missed by his partner Margaret and by all his family. Though he has tragically passed away, his love lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to walk alongside him. His memory will forever remain in all our hearts.

"My heart is broken: your partner Margaret xx"

Police cordoned off parts of Walton Hall Avenue in the wake of the incident.

Those closures remained in place the following morning[2], with traffic unable to get from Queens Drive leading away from the city centre, as officers continued forensic examinations of the scene.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, stopped at the scene and has assisted with enquiries. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage of the crash. Detectives are still appealing for information about the circumstances of the crash.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy, Lead Investigating Officer from our Matrix Serious Collision Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with Andy's family at this difficult time, and they are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers.

"Our investigation continues and we would like to hear from anyone who might have been driving in the area of Walton[3] Hall Avenue, near to Queens Drive at about 10.25pm on the night of Saturday 31 January and saw any part of this incident.

If you have dashcam, and were in the area, please come forward so that we can review the footage.

"Likewise, if you live locally and have CCTV, please get in touch so we can review it and build an accurate picture of how this happened."
