Heartbreak as boy, 7, dies after being hit by car at 5am

A seven-year-old boy was killed this morning (Saturday, March 7) after he was hit by a car. The youngster was struck at around 5am, with medics heading to the A38 near Lichfield in Staffordshire. But he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone who was travelling on the A38 at the time of the crash to get in touch.

The incident prompted many to express sympathy on social media. Lily Violet wrote: "RIP little one. Condolences to his family."

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A38 near Lichfield this morning (7 March), BirminghamLive reports.[1]

"We were called to a report of a collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206 at around 5am.

"Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"To help with the investigation, the A38 remains closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions, although this is expected to be reopened shortly.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators.
