Lorry carrying £40k of stolen tyres smashes into police during motorway chase

Two men have been jailed following a high-speed police pursuit in a lorry containing more than GBP40,000 worth of stolen tyres.

The pair stole around 500 tyres from a parked trailer in Warrington[1] and loaded them into their own HGV on 12 December 2025, before fleeing the scene down the M6.

The lorry weaved in and out of traffic between lanes and collided with a police traffic car, causing it to crash into the central reservation - the officer in the vehicle only received minor injuries. The chase came to an end after the vehicle lost control near Bradford, West Yorkshire[2].

Dean Higgins, of Winrose Avenue, Leeds, has been jailed for 27 months after pleading guilty to theft, driving whilst disqualified, and dangerous driving. Connor Barnett, of Quarry Way, Leeds, has been jailed for 14 months after pleading guilty to theft.

Both were sentenced on Friday, 6 March.
