Lorry overturned near Ellesmere as driver escapes crash

Ellesmere Fire Station confirmed the driver of a lorry managed to escape their cab before being taken to hospital after a crash earlier today. Emergency Services were called to the scene just after 9.30am this morning (March 16) after reports of a single vehicle crash on the A528 near Wood Lane West Mercia Police advised drivers to avoid the area while the scene was cleared.

However, Ellesmere Fire Station confirmed the driver had already free themselves from the lorry when firefighters arrived. A spokesperson for Ellesmere Fire station said: "At 09.43 this morning, 09P2 was mobilised to reports of a Road Traffic Collision involving an HGV near Wood Lane. "On arrival, crew found the driver had been able to self-extricate from the vehicle, and administered medical care until the arrival of ambulance crew."

West Mercia Police confirmed the driver of the lorry was later taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to the A528 near Ellesmere at around 9.35am this morning following a single-vehicle collision.

"One person has been taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing."
