M11 Essex RECAP: Motorway closed near Stansted Airport after five-vehicle crash

A motorway closed near to a major UK airport following a horror crash. The M11[1] in Essex[2] closed northbound between J8 (London Stansted Airport[3]) and J10 (Duxford) due to the multi-vehicle collision[4]. The crash involved three cars, a van and a lorry - and the lorry was overturned.

National Highways said Essex Police[5], Essex Fire and Rescue Services were on scene along with National Highways Traffic Officers. A diversion route was in place.

National Highways says the M11 remains closed in its latest update.

The #M11[6] in #Essex[7] remains closed northbound between J8 (@STN_Airport[8]) and J10 (#Duxford[9]) due to a collision including a lorry which has overturned. If you're caught within the closure then we will get you moving as soon as we can.

Lorry is oveturned on M11

National Highways says a lorry is overturned on the M11. Efforts are ongoing to get traffic moving again.

Diversion route in place on M11

National Highways advises motorists on the M11 to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs:

• Exit at Junction 8 and take the second exit from the roundabout A120 to Little Hadham
• Continue on the A120 through Little Hadham and Standon to A120/A10 roundabout.
• Take third exit from the roundabout and continue on A10 through Buntingford, Chipping, Buckland and Reed, to the A10/A505 roundabout at Royston.
• Take third exit from the roundabout and continue on A505 to rejoin with M11 northbound carriageway at Junction 10
