A man died following a crash on the M6 motorway on Tuesday evening. Emergency services were called at 7.47pm on March 4 to reports of a serious crash involving a white Renault van and a crane truck on the northbound carriageway between junction 16 for Crewe and junction 17 (for Sandbach).
A 34-year-old passenger in the van, from the Manchester area, was pronounced dead at the scene[1]. The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man also from Manchester, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.
Police said they are in the early stages of their investigation and are appealing for witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers to come forward.
They are also urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured the incident[2] to get in touch.
The motorway was closed overnight[3] while collision investigation work was carried out, with traffic diverted from the area.
Inspector Andrew Dennison said: "As part of our investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident, we would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened and has not already spoken to police to get in touch with us.
"The same goes for anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage.
"Our thoughts remain with the man's family and friends at this sad time."
