Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicles on M6

The northbound carriageway remains closed between junctions 21, for the M56, and junction 21A, for the M62, after police responded to a call to a 'serious collision' at 2.50am. Officers at the scene discovered the body of a pedestrian, who they say had been 'struck by several vehicles'. Police have confirmed a further closure of the M6 further north, between junction 28 and 30 in the Leyland area is connected.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 2.50am today, Saturday, March 7, police were called to reports of a serious collision on the M6 between junctions 21 and 21A. "Officers in attendance at the scene found that a pedestrian had been struck by several vehicles. "Sadly, the pedestrian was found dead at the scene."

Earlier, a police spokesman said: "Police are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M6 between junctions 21 and 21A.

"Road closures are in place between junctions 21 and 21A and 28-30 while emergency services work at the scene.

"Delays are expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
